What the Flash: Share the Light with Bob Davis How many times have you been tasked with creating a photograph in worst possible light or location? I don't always have the opportunity of shooting at the golden hour. You can't publish an excuse. I want to share with you how I use Off Camera Flash to control and shape the light into submission. It doesn’t matter what time of day, indoors or out; through mastering the control and shape of your light, no time is a bad time for a great picture. We will use all the light available and then mix in OCF to create the light we want no matter where or when. So don't be afraid to shoot at high noon, inside that cave of a venue or the dark streets at night, your living room, get that flash off camera and create stunning images. This is a 4 day lighting class, meeting once a week for 3 hours per class on June 6, 13, 20, 27, 2017. This is a down and dirty, workshop with celebrity photojournalist, Bob Davis. You'll want to leave your lighting worries behind and bring what you love... your passion to learn and your cameras! Bob will show you how to get the shot mastering your flash and camera settings. You will be shooting with him as he reveals his techniques and helps you to improve the quality of your images right in camera. He'll show you how to become a seeker of light and how to use creative lighting techniques to make each image sing! Bob will begin with reviewing the gear, light modifiers, radio triggers, and shooting concepts. You will then practice those concepts in the class and then be given an assignment. The following week will be a review and critique before advancing to the next lesson, each class building upon the last. The purpose is to learn how to control and create light on location pushing your Speedlights to their limits, mastering all the features of your Speedlights, such as high speed sync, rear curtain sync, combining speed lights and available light in conjunction with radio triggers. IS THIS FOR ME?If you're struggling with off camera flash and would like to set yourself apart from the competition, this workshop will inspire you to create the light you want no matter what the location challenges bring. Create beautiful images for your portfolio that will feed your passion. WHAT TO BRING?Bring your cameras, lenses, and your favorite light modifier and triggers if you have any, something to take notes with. And bring a positive attitude and an expectation that you will walk away with a new skill set to improve your photography. Class sessions will be 6:30 pm-9:30 pm on Tuesdays June 6, 13, 20, 27, 2017. Class size limited to 20 and requires a minimum of 10 attendees to take place. I've been a professional photographer for over 30 years. It was obvious to me at an early age that being a photographer was what I wanted to do with my life. My passion for photography began back in high school when I became the editor of my newspaper. I then went on to Columbia College and was named College Photographer of the Year. With this came a full time job at the Daily Southtown newspaper in Chicago and then on to the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper for 14 years. My cameras have always been a passport allowing me a front seat to history. I am continually honored when doors open and people invite me in to document their life. While at the paper, I had covered countless amazing events, such as presidential elections, Michael Jordan's entire career with the Chicago Bulls, many faiths celebrations and rituals. I've traveled around the world for weddings and human-interest stories for none profit organizations. I have since moved on from the newspaper industry. Now, a partner with my wife Dawn Davis in our own endeavor, Bob & Dawn Davis Photography & Design, you have to pinch me! Our client list reads like a “Who’s Who” of entertainment’s elite. Recently, we had the honor of photographing ABC's TV show The Bachelorette Ashley's wedding to J.P. in Pasadena, California. And many other "A" list weddings such as Eva Longoria & Tony Parker's wedding in Paris, Salma Hayek & François-Henri Pinault's wedding in Italy, La La Vazquez and Carmelo Anthony's wedding in New York, Tracey Edmonds and Eddie Murphy's wedding in Bora Bora, along with many other fabulous events with Oprah Winfrey. I was also commissioned to work on the book America 24/7 that was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and was a New York Times Best Seller. Our work has been featured in publications such as O Magazine, People, OK, Inside Weddings, Town & Country, Munaluchi, Grace Ormonde, The Knot, Ritz-Carlton magazine, Professional Photographer, Rangefinder, and Popular Photography. I am honored to be a member Canons Explorers of Light, a Westcott Top Pro Elite Photographer, Manfrotto Ambassador, and a member of SanDisk Extreme Team. I am the author of Lights, Camera, Capture, and We’re Engaged! I am proud to say Lights, Camera, Capture is also an App for the iPad, iPhone and Android and was the number one selling photography App on the Apple App Store. I am happily married to Dawn Davis and together we have two beautiful children, Bobby and Alli.
